About the genus · Lithops

Lithops is a genus of succulent plants in the ice plant family, Aizoaceae. Members of the genus are native to southern Africa. They avoid being eaten by herbivores with their camouflage as small stones, and are often known as pebble plants or living stones.

Cultivation

Grouped as a cactus or succulent by the genus Lithops, which is reliably one kind of plant (archetype table). The table holds no figure for this group, which spans too much for one minimum, and no habitat climate is derived yet; no cold floor is given, and no prose comes from the table.

Nothing derived: no habitat climate for this species, and the archetype table has no figure for its genus or family.

Climate across the habitat

No habitat climate can be derived: Only 2 distinct land cells of the climate grid hold an in-range record; three are needed for an envelope.

Natural habitat

Native range as published by WCVP; the marker is where the records are densest and decides nothing.
Openly licensed records inside the range, framed on where they fall.

Evidence usedThe map marker rests on all 8 georeferenced records inside the native range; the map shows only the 2 openly licensed ones, which alone would put the marker 232 km away. Under a dozen records: treat the map as indicative. No climate envelope is derived for this species. 6 in-range records are placed to worse than 10 km and stay on the map but off the climate.
The map markerthe map marker: the openly licensed record nearest the middle of the densest 1° population of the 8 in-range records; it decides nothing.
